This course is primarily for Southwark residents and is sponsored by Southwark Council, but a limited number of places are also available to non- residents of the borough

This course is suitable for students with no previous experience in jewellery-making.

Course Aims: The course aims to introduce and develop the practical skills we use for working precious materials in contemporary jewellery making.

Course details: You'll be walking home with the most precious ring on your finger at the end of this exciting weekend! Experiment with hammering techniques, learn how to size a ring, cut intricate patterns - You will explore a range of approaches to texturing, shaping and forming metal, completing several experimental rings in gilding metal, before working in sterling silver to produce your final design.

Techniques include: texturing of metals; ring sizing; drilling, piercing and filing metal; silver soldering; forming; forging; polishing.

The course fee covers the cost of all materials (including silver).

Concessionary Rates for Southwark Residents apply because of support from Southwark Council.

SP01. Working with Cold Enamel with Henrietta Fernandez

2 day intensive course for students at all levels!

Study mode: Full days, consecutive Saturdays

Date: Saturday 7 and Saturday 14 May 2011

Times:
10.30am – 5pm

Max student numbers : 6

Course cost: £200

This course is suitable for all students who are interested in exploring the use of colour in jewellery

Course Aims: The course aims to introduce ways to combine metal and cold enamels to make original pieces of jewellery.

Course details: First introducing you to the concepts and applications of the process od cold enamelling, your tutor will assist you to develop and make your design for a pendant, brooch or earrings, which you will then cold enamel with your choice of colours. The second day will focus on cleaning and polishing and finishing methods for you to complete your original designs.

The course fee covers the cost of all materials. Metals available for your use include brass, copper and gilding metal.Cold enamels will also be provided.

You may also bring your own precious materials to work with.

DC02. Sand Casting with Silver

tutor : Vicky Forrester

3 Day Mid-Week intensive course in casting for those with intermediate skills

Study mode: 3 full days, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday

Date: 13 - 15 July 2011

This course is suitable for people who already have some basic experience in jewellery-making, who wish to further explore their creativity in metal.

Course Aims: The course aims to introduce and develop the practical skills we use for working precious materials in contemporary jewellery making.

Course Description: This is an exciting opportunity to experiment with a variety of approaches to casting using the delft sand method, first finding and then developing suitable forms to create a mold for casting in silver.

It is anticipated that you will produce a range of progressive test pieces which could form the basis of a charm necklace or bracelet.

Techniques include: Delft sand casting, working with resistant materials to make prototypes for mold-making.

The course fee covers the cost of all non-precious materials but silver must be purchased separately. More info will be provided at the time of booking your place.
