S02. Introduction to Jewellery Making -
Design and make a sterling silver ring
with Vicky Forrester
1 day intensive course: Saturday 25 July 2009
Study mode: Full day, Saturday
Times: 10 am – 4.00pm
Course costs: £75 inclusive of precious materials
Max student numbers - 10
This course is suitable for complete beginners.
Course details:
You will experiment with a variety of approaches to texturing metal
before designing and making your very own ring in sterling silver.
Techniques include: texturing of metals; ring sizing; piercing and
filing metal; silver soldering; polishing.
All tools and equipment are provided for you to use, and the course fee
covers the cost of materials, including your silver!

S01. Experiment with Delft Casting
with Vicky Forrester
3 day intensive course: Mon 20-Wed 22 July 2009
Study mode: Full days, Mon, Tue, Wed
Times: 10 am – 4.00pm
Course costs: £150
Max student numbers - 7
This course will suit all levels of skill/experience in jewellery making.
Student numbers are limited to 7 to ensure good access to specialist equipment and tutor support.
Course details:
You will experiment with a variety of approaches to casting using the
'delft' sand method, first finding and then developing suitable forms
to create a mold for casting in silver. It is anticipated that you will
produce a range of progressive test pieces which could form the basis
for a charm necklace or bracelet. You may also choose to make a ring.
A list of materials is available from the tutor in advance.

S03. Boxes and Lockets with Ray Ashley
3 day intensive course: 7-9 August 2009
Study mode: Full days, Fri, Sat, Sun
Times: 10 am – 4.00pm
Course costs: £150
Max student numbers - 10
This course requires intermediate skills in jewellery making to make
best use the techniques involved
Course details:
You will be introduced to a variety of approaches to creating boxes and
lockets before designing and making your own personal piece.
Techniques include: box making and how to create hollow forms; hinges
and clasp making; making a lid that fits.
Sheet copper and gilding metal will be provided; students wishing to
work in precious materials must purchase their own. Tutor guidance is
available in advance.

S04. Enamelling with Vladimir Bohm
2 day intensive course: August 2009

Study mode: Weekend, Full days
Times: 10 am – 4.00pm
Course costs: £120
Max student numbers - 10
This course requires at least basic skills in jewellery making to make best use the techniques involved.
Vladimir Bohm leads this exciting course, introducing his innovative approach to enameling.

The course also incorporates some basic silversmithing techniques.

Autumn Courses at Flux Studios:
D01. Beginners Course in Jewellery
Start date: 24 September 2009 (for 10 weeks)
Study mode: Thursday mornings, 3hrs per week
Times: 10.15am - 1.15pm
Course costs: £150
This course is suitable for students withwith no previous experience in jewellery-making.
Course details:
Through a series of short, fun projects you will learn how to design
and make jewellery. Beginning with cuttlefish casting you will explore
casting as a method for creating 3D forms in pewter. Subsequent
projects include making a ring or bangle using copper or gilding metal
(you may also use silver if you wish to purchase precious materials)
Pewter
and other non-precious materials may be purchased from the tutor.
Precious materials can be purchased through our usual supplier.
C04. Beginners and Intermediate Course in Jewellery
Start date: 17 September 2009 (for 12 weeks)
Study mode: Thursday evenings, 3hrs per week
Times: 6pm – 9pm
Course costs: £165
This course is suitable for students with basic skills in jewellery-making, as well as for those with no previous experience.
Course details:
This term we will begin with cuttlefish casting as a starting point for
personal development; using pewter as our initial material for
experimentation, students will explore casting as a method for creating
3D forms in metal.
Experienced
students may wish to experiment with more complex casting methods, also
incorporating other materials (perpex, glass, wood, found materials) in
their pewter catsings to add colour/contrast to their designs.
Pewter
and other non-precious materials may be purchased from the tutor.
Precious materials can be purchased through our usual supplier.
B04. Intermediate and Advanced Jewellery Course
Start date: 15 September 2009 (for 12 weeks)
Study mode: Tuesday evenings, 3hrs per week
Times: 6pm – 9pm
Course costs: £165
This course is suitable for students with intermediate and advanced
jewellery making skills. Students will be challenged to improve
existing skills, also developing new skills by exploring new
techniques.
Course details: The group focus for this term will be 'Etching'.
As well as experimenting with more traditional stop-out techniques we
will look at photo-etching as a means of transferring patterns or
images onto metal.
Please
note, I anticipate that more advanced students are likely to arrive
with a personal project in mind; I am always happy to facilitate on an
individual basis to support your personal requirements.
Non-precious materials may be purchased for £5. Precious materials can be purchased through our usual supplier.
