Save the Date: 14, 15, 16 September 2010 New term's courses begin!

Thanks for your patience in waiting for the details for Autumn courses here at Flux Studios. We have had a great amount of interest for these courses, and we have an exciting range of techniques on offer for you to explore.

You may also notice the changes made to the running of courses this term... due to growing demand for places on courses and to facilitate the best possible learning experience for you we have now developed 3 distinct course levels, at beginner, intermediate and advanced levels. The advanced classes will continue to be run by Vicky Forrester, while the beginner and intermediate courses will each be led by 2 tutors (all Flux Jewellers), thus providing excellent (unbeatable?) student/tutor ratios, and an opportunity for you to learn from some of the hottest talent in town!

Apologies for the limited number of spaces available on this round of courses...current students get first option to continue, and we have a lot of uptake.

This course is suitable for students with advanced jewellery making skills.

Course Aims: The course aims to introduce and develop the practical skills we use for working precious materials in contemporary jewellery making. Students are encouraged to keep a sketchbook to record ideas and experiences, to inform the design process.

Course details: This course will assist you on an one-to-one basis, providing the tutoring, tools and equipment required to achieve your personal objectives. You will have the opportunity to improve existing skills, also developing new skills by exploring new techniques. As the course progresses you can end up producing rings, bangles and brooches, experimental jewellery, art pieces etc. In addition, throughout these courses I introduce a new theme or technique to the group, to stimulate new ways of working.

Theme: Hollow Forming with the Fly Press

We will explore how to use the Fly Press to make hollow forms: first experimenting with raised pattern-making on flat sheet, we will then explore ways to create personalised die moulds to stamp sheet metal into. Typically this process can be used to make repeated hollow forms like beads, shallow boxes and other containers, and there will be an optional brief to make a necklace from repeated fly-pressed forms.

Please note, I anticipate that more advanced students are likely to arrive with a personal project in mind; I am always happy to facilitate on an individual basis to support your personal requirements.
